Dr. Astrid A Fontaine

Member of the Board of Management, Bentley Motors

Dr. Fontaine joined Bentley Motors in January 2018. She is responsible for all strategic and operational aspects of global Human Resources. In addition she leads the Digital Transformation and Digitalization of enterprise, products (car and services) and customer related areas of the business. She also is responsible for full strategic and operational management of all Information Technology (IT) for Bentley Motors globally. As Member of the Board of Management and Director of the company she has personal responsibility and liability for Bentley Motors. One of Dr. Fontaine’s passions is to lead towards a better gender balance and inclusive culture in the automotive industry. As such she engages in the career progress for other females, participates in panel discussions and shares her experiences as a former student of Technology and Engineering. She has been awarded with the Inspiring Women in Automotive Award from the 30% Club, as well as recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in the Engineering Sector. In addition to her current role at Bentley Motors Dr. Fontaine also serves as a Member of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen Group Services. Prior to her responsibilities at Bentley Motors Dr. Fontaine worked for Porsche North America as Senior Vice President Human Resources, Culture and Innovation. Her experience in the automotive industry started with Mercedes-Benz, where she held multiple senior management positions within Corporate Strategy Stuttgart, Germany as well as setting up the Digitalization/eCommerce for Mercedes-Benz USA, ultimately becoming the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Mercedes-Benz USA. Her academic education is founded on dual Master Degrees from the Technical University Kaiserslautern, Germany in Mechanical Engineering and International Management. In addition she completed her Ph.D. at the Goizueta Business School, Emory University, USA in Information Systems and Mergers & Acquisitions. Dr. Fontaine served as a Professor for Business Strategy at the China European Business School in Shanghai, China as well as Professor for Digital Enterprise at the Goizueta Business School, Emory University, USA.
