Meet June’s “Member of the Month”: Lucy Cater (Market Support Specialist – Global Accounts, AkzoNobel)

Why did you join the Women Automotive Network?

It’s incredibly motivating to be surrounded by women – and men – who are actively trying to make the Automotive industry more inclusive and move it forward in a positive direction. Especially after multiple lockdowns where everything seemed quite ‘doom and gloom’ for a while; being part of this Network is inspiring!

Why is DE&I important to you?

As a young professional woman, the lack of gender diversity in the automotive industry (and generally across many industries and sectors) directly has an effect on me and the limitations I will potentially face in my own career. So, I feel compelled to be part of the change(s) I wish to see. It’s also important that we all do something to make the world a better place for future generations (big or small) and for me, it is about making our workplaces, industries and communities more diverse and more inclusive.

Who is your inspirational woman?

Michelle Obama. I love everything she stands for and how much time she has dedicated to supporting women and girls at all points in their lives/ careers so we can fulfill our potential. I love her quote “there is no limit to what we as women can achieve” – which I feel personally, is what the Women Automotive Network embodies.

What is your proudest career moment?

Was speaking on a panel to over 300 automotive professionals at a large industry conference about “the customer of the future” and the changing landscape of the customer journey, what customers want and how we need to adapt in order to keep up with their demands. It was scary at the time but amazing when I look back and it really helped me become a lot more confident in what I am doing in my role today
